PCT - Rainy pass to Stevens pass - Day 3 of 7
Day Three
A much cooler night had me waking up to tuck in and roll over since I'm just quilt sleeping right now which is much more comfy.
Tried to sleep in but my body said no more sleep for you! Reluctantly I undue the mattress which lets out the air and forces me to get up and get my day started. I pack up camp and eat on the go! Left camp 6:45. First challenge was to find a way across the river since it has no bridge. I can easy get across but get my feet fully wet if I cross where the trail is, but I explore a bit up and down stream and find two huge logs I can cross over on
today was a lot of incline but early on I have more energy
up up up and over, then up, down for the rest of day.
Why are the most entertaining stories the most embarrassing?
Does a bear poop in the woods?
Well so does a backpacker, When you got to go you've got to go, so for a while I was checking out possible sites along the trail until I find an unseen space, off the trail a bit, with flat open space. So how it goes is, poop, dig a hole, put poop in hole with stick, cover and done. This time I hold onto a tree when it time for business since it helps get things done, but as soon as I finish the tree breaks and I fall over backwards ! in exaggerated form since I'm trying to avoid touching number two. I avoided hitting number two, but am ass over tea kettle with trousers around my ankles, crikey. I brush myself off, clean myself up, then start digging my hole, but then! Crack... crack crack ! I look behind me and there is a bear twenty meters away slowly coming through the bush ! crikey!!! I give my trusted yell AAAAOOOO which surprises him and he takes off in the other direction. Give a guy some privacy will ya.
Then I finish up my chores and put my pack on and away i go again.
The rest of the day I just trudged along putting km under my belt, a pleasant cheezie snack at 3:00 and camp arrival at four. My 30km done and not interested in doing another 8.5km until the next camp. Camped at another riverside with makeshift benches which make things a bit easier. Shepard's pie and chocolate with hazelnuts for desert. Since I'm early stopped I'm Currently reading the book, Ready Player One, on my IPhone.
